The Birman, also known as the ‘Sacred Cat of Burma’’ has its own legend! According to the legend, there was once a temple in Burma, where a lot of white cats lived. These cats were important to the beliefs of the priests that lived there. One night, the temple was raided by bandits and the High Priest was killed. One of his cats jumped on his body, and as it did, it started to change colour. The cat’s eyes turned bright blue, like the eyes of their goddess, its fur turned a pale hold and its ears, nose, tail and paws turned brown. It’s unclear where the breed really comes from, but it’s said that a pregnant female was once shipped from Burma to France, where she gave birth to the litter, and that’s how the breed spread to the western world. Birman cats are generally calm cats and they like to be around people, so they don’t like to be alone. They are social towards other cats, dogs and kids, and they tend to get really attached to one specific owner.
